Effective October 2026
Privacy Policy.
We keep this simple: we collect only what we need to help you find community, and we never sell your information.
What we collect
When you join the waitlist
Your first name, email, and where you live (Portland, Phoenix, or another city and state), plus the interests you choose. If you check the updates box, we also record that you agreed, when, and the wording you agreed to.
When a host applies
The organization or group's name, type, city, and website or social link; the contact person's name and email; the kinds of gatherings they plan to host; and their agreement to our Community Standards.
Automatically
If you arrive from a link with campaign tags (such as utm_source), we store those tags with your signup. We use Vercel Analytics to count visits and signups in aggregate. It does not use cookies or track you across other websites. If the Sownhouse app crashes or hits an error, it sends a crash report (the error, the screen, the app version, and the type of device) so we can fix it. Crash reports don't include your name, email, or location.
How we use it
- To confirm your signup and tell you when Sownhouse opens near you
- To send occasional updates, only if you opted in
- To invite you to Sownhouse when seats open near you
- To review host applications and communicate with applicants
- To understand which cities and kinds of gatherings to prioritize
When you use the Sownhouse app
Your account email, first name, city, interests, and anything you add to your profile, plus the gatherings you save or RSVP to and whether you checked in. When you RSVP to a gathering, its host sees your name and email so they can welcome you and reach you about changes. Hosts agree to use it only for that gathering.
Gathering chat
If you have a seat at a gathering, you can choose to join its private chat. People in that chat (the host and others with a seat who joined) see your first name, last initial, profile photo, and what you write. Your email and phone number are never shown there. Messages are screened automatically for things that go against our Community Standards. The host can see everything in their gathering's chat, and the Sownhouse team can review chat messages when needed to keep people safe, for example when a message is reported. A chat becomes read-only 48 hours after the gathering ends, and its messages are deleted 30 days after that. Messages are deleted sooner if you delete your account. If you cancel your seat, you lose access to that chat. We may email you when a host posts an announcement or when you have unread messages (at most once every 12 hours per chat). These emails never include what anyone wrote, and you can mute a chat or turn chat emails off in the app.
Invitations
When you share a gathering from the app, the link includes a short random invite code. If someone joins or saves a seat through your link, we count it toward your invitations. The code doesn't contain your name or any other personal information, and we only show totals.
Feedback after a gathering
After a gathering you had a seat at, you can tell us privately how it went and add a note. Only the Sownhouse team reads notes. The host sees totals from everyone who answered (once at least 3 people have), never who said what. Notes are screened for things that go against our Community Standards.
If you allow it, the app uses your phone's location to show gatherings near you and how far away they are. That happens on your phone; we don't store your location.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your information. We share it only with the service providers that run Sownhouse for us, under agreements that protect it: Supabase (our database), Vercel (website hosting and analytics), Resend (email delivery), and Sentry (app crash reports). Gathering addresses are looked up with OpenStreetMap to show distances. Photos on our website are loaded from Unsplash. We may disclose information if required by law.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you are on the list or using Sownhouse, and delete it when you ask us to. Gathering chat messages are deleted 30 days after a chat closes.
Your choices
You can delete your account at any time from the You tab in the app. You can also ask us to see, correct, or delete your information by emailing hello@sownhouse.com. You can unsubscribe from updates at any time using the link in any update email.
Children
Sownhouse is for adults 18 and older. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top.
